Frequently Asked Questions

Clinical hypnotherapy combines talking therapy with hypnosis to help create positive, lasting change. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that allows you to become more receptive to helpful suggestions while remaining fully aware and in control. It can be effective for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, confidence, habits, fears, stress and emotional wellbeing.
-
No! You're not under anyone's control during hypnosis. You remain aware of what's happening and choose what you say and do throughout the session.
Think of hypnosis as a state of focused attention rather than being ‘asleep' or unconscious. If I asked you to reveal your deepest secrets or dance around the room (don't worry, I won't!), you'd simply choose not to.
Clinical hypnotherapy is a collaborative process where you're always in control.
-
Only if you really want to... but in reality, no!
Stage hypnosis is designed purely for entertainment and is very different from clinical hypnotherapy. Stage hypnotists carefully select volunteers who are keen to take part and perform for an audience.
In a clinical hypnotherapy session, the focus is entirely on helping you achieve your own goals. You remain aware, in control and able to stop the process at any time. You won't say anything you don't want to say or do anything that goes against your values.
So, no clucking, no embarrassing moments, and definitely no loss of control, just a relaxed, focused state that allows us to work together towards positive change.
-
No. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about hypnotherapy. You remain aware of your surroundings throughout the session and cannot be made to do or say anything against your wishes. Think of it as becoming deeply focused and absorbed, similar to being engrossed in a good book or film.
-
Everyone experiences hypnosis slightly differently, but most people describe feeling deeply relaxed, calm, and focused. Some people feel physically relaxed, while others simply notice a sense of mental calmness.
-
Every client is different, so there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Some people achieve their goals in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. During your Initial Consultation, I'll recommend a plan based on your individual goals and circumstances.
-
Clinical hypnotherapy can support many different challenges, including:
Anxiety and stress
Confidence and self-esteem
Fears and phobias
Panic attacks
Sleep difficulties
Habits such as smoking or nail biting
Weight management and eating behaviours
Emotional regulation
Exam, workplace and sports performance
Motivation and procrastination
Many other emotional or behavioural difficulties
